정훈장교로 군 생활을 시작했습니다. 조국과 민족이라는 거대한 단어들 사이에서, 카메라를 들 때마다 보인 것은 전우 한 사람 한 사람의 얼굴이었습니다. 렌즈를 사이에 두고 나눈 감정들이 기록의 이유가 되었고, 그 이유를 따라 전역을 결심했습니다. 지금은 운동장과 트랙과 훈련장에서 — 승부가 아니라, 도전하고 쓰러지고 다시 일어서는 사람의 순간에 카메라를 둡니다.
I began behind a camera as an Army public affairs officer. Between words as large as nation and duty, what the lens kept finding was the face of one soldier at a time. Those exchanges became my reason to record — and the reason I left the service to keep recording. Now, on fields, tracks and training grounds, the camera stays not on the score, but on the moment a person challenges, falls, and rises again.
